Schalmont & Mechanicville plays tomorrow in State Regionals in both boys & girls soccer
The New York State Regional Finals are taking place this weekend in boys and girls soccer, and the Capital Region will have two venues playing host to great soccer this weekend. Waterford-Halfmoon High School will host two games at Noon and 2:30pm, and Stillwater High School will host two games starting at 1:00pm.
Originally the girls would play at Stillwater, and the boys would play at Waterford-Halfmoon, but once it became known that Schalmont's boys and girls would both advance, and the same for Mechanicville's, Section 2's Soccer Coordinator Ernie Clapper began working on a plan to have both the boys and girls of a school to play at the same venue. And after discussions with the various Athletic Directors, those plans came to fruition.
So, as a result, Waterford-Halfmoon will play host to the Schalmont Sabres boys and girls soccer Class A Regional Finals. Both the boys and girls face New Hartford from the Utica area in Section 3. The Boys will kick at Noon, and the girls will kick at 2:30pm.
And Mechanicville will thus play their games at Stillwater High School, with the girls playing Section 3's Marcellus at 1pm, and the boys facing Syracuse-based Westhill afterwards.
Coverage of both games will be streaming on the fee-based subscription service NFHSNetwork.com. The winners move onto the State Semifinals next weekend, which will be played in Middletown for the boys, and Cortland for the girls.
