Police Surround Malta Apartment Complex, Building Evacuated

What we know so far

Update 3:19pm: A resident of Ellsworth Apartments tells NewsChannel 13 it appeared to be a domestic incident in which a man threatened to kill everyone in the building. One of the bullets fired struck a pipe, causing the apartment to flood. 

Update 12:49pm: New York State Police issued a statement on X saying the suspect is dead, while two troopers suffered minor injuries. 

Update 12:34pm: Although unconfirmed, AlertPage on X reports this is a multi-victim shooting, at least two people shot. 

Update 12:21pm: The Times Union says residents reported hearing gunshots earlier in the day. The building alarm and sprinkler system apparently went off also. 

A large police presence is being reported at the Ellsworth Apartment complex in the town of Malta. A number of police and EMT vehicles are on the scene. CBS 6 reports that residents were told to evacuate, while other were told to shelter in place and not enter the 4th floor of building 2. 

This comes one day after man fired shots at the State Police barracks in Malta. Police returned fire and the man died.
