It may be closed for days

Unrelated to the flooding from tropical storm Debby, a burst pipe at Albany Memorial Hospital caused the evacuation of patients and staff on Friday afternoon.

The Times Union talked to hospital spokesperson Courtney Weisberg, who assessed the damage.

We are making progress. The facility remains closed. Worse case scenario, they’re looking at three to four days.

About 12 people were in the emergency department when the flood happened - some were taken to other hospitals, others were discharged. Another 10 were getting outpatient care - those appointments will be rescheduled.

The burst pipe is said to have caused 'significant' flooding within the hospital.
