Woman Charged With Smuggling Turtles Into Canada By Kayak

A woman from China has been arrested after Border Patrol agents caught her trying to smuggle 29 protected turtles into Canada – on a kayak. Wan Yee Ng was taken into custody over the weekend in Vermont, where agents nabbed her as she was climbing into an inflatable kayak on Lake Wallace, according to U.S. Border Patrol. She was carrying a duffel bag that contained the eastern box turtles, each of which was wrapped in a sock, agents say. Ng was planning on bringing the turtles, which fetch $1,000 each on the black market, into Ontario, according to Border Patrol. Ng has been charged with violating the Endangered Species Act and is currently being held without bond, the federal public defender’s office reports. What’s the most illicit thing you’ve smuggled into a place?
