California Store Selling Pineapples For $395 Each

While Californians are accustomed to paying more for groceries than people do in any other state, even they are shocked by the price one store is charging for a specific type of fruit. Melissa’s Produce in Vernon is selling Rubyglow pineapples for a staggering $395.99 each. That’s more than the average $297.72 a typical Californian earns in a week. The reason for the jacked-up price is Rubyglow pineapples are in short supply, a rep for the grocery store says. Del Monte, which says it developed the exclusive pinkish fruit over a 15-year period, produces only a few thousand a year, the company reports. Is there anything that tastes so good you’d be willing to pay nearly $400 for it?
