As Thanksgiving approaches, pet owners should be cautious about sharing holiday foods with their furry friends. While small amounts of turkey, mashed potatoes, and gravy may be safe, deep-fried turkey and turkey bones should be avoided. Certain foods like onions, garlic, grapes, raisins, chocolate, and the artificial sweetener Xylitol can be toxic and even deadly to pets. If your pet ingests any of these harmful substances, contact your vet immediately for assistance.

Pizza Hut has announced that it is stepping into the wine business by launching a pizza wine.
The limited-edition tomato wine is said to capture " the taste of your favorite slice in every sip.”
The wine is made with tomatoes and infused with natural basil.
The company says the “wine offers an aromatic blend of fresh herbs and spices with rich, sun-ripened tomato notes and a subtle hint of toasted oak – reminiscent of a perfectly baked pizza crust. “
Pizza Hut is offering a limited-edition gift set that includes a bottle of its new wine, two Pizza Hut-branded wine glasses, and a wine opener.

If you are traveling for Thanksgiving, you may be wondering how you can transport food to take or leftovers - especially on a plane. According to the TSA, a holiday food can travel through a checkpoint if it is solid. The TSA also advises passengers to place those food items into an easily accessible location of the carry-on where it is packed. The internet's fascination with baby pygmy hippopotamus Moo Deng continues as she stars in a new song titled "Moodeng Moodeng." The catchy track, available in multiple languages, features lyrics about playing with her mom, Jona. Moo Deng's popularity has helped double visitor numbers at the Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand, prompting the installation of CCTV cameras to ensure her safety. The zoo's social media pages are filled with content featuring the adorable hippo, who was born on July 10, 2024.

The collection, curated by Creative Director Pharrell Williams, features high-end dog accessories including a $60,000 Kennel Trunk. The trunk, designed to resemble a traditional house, is both luxurious and functional with a removable door and easy cleaning options. A group of boaters stranded at sea were rescued by Disney's newest cruise ship. It happened Sunday, several hundred miles off the coast of Bermuda.  A catamaran carrying four people blew a gasket and began taking on water. The cruise ship Disney Treasure responded to a distress call and sent out a lifeboat to rescue the passengers. The Treasure is not yet in service - it was traveling from the Netherlands to Port Canaveral, Florida, where she'll launch her maiden voyage next month. Source: AP, Cruisehive

A pair of ruby slippers worn by Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz are going up for auction. The famous shoes have quite a story - they were stolen from a museum display in 2005 by a man who believed they contained real rubies.  The FBI eventually recovered the slippers in 2018. The shoes are expected to fetch up to $3.5 million as part of a movie memorabilia auction that also includes the hat Margaret Hamilton wore as The Wicked Witch of the West. Source: CBS

Cutting down on snacks is one of the keys to weight loss, right?  Well, a new study found that snacking might be better for your health than we realized. London-based researcher Sarah Berry says a 2023 study found "no difference in health outcomes" based on the number of snacking sessions in a day. Instead, it was the quality and timing of the snack that made a difference.  Nutritious snacks like nuts or fruit were beneficial, while empty calories like cookies or chips - especially after 9pm - led to worse health outcomes. In short, Berry says snacking is fine "as long as you’re grazing on healthy food and not grazing late at night." Source: Plant Based News

Restaurant chain TGI Fridays has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The company says it hopes to "ensure the long-term viability" of the chain after struggling to stay afloat since the COVID-19 pandemic. TGI Fridays has closed more than 100 restaurants this year and currently operates 163 locations nationwide, down from more than 600 locations in 2008. Source: CBS

Starbucks has announced that it is discontinuing its Oleato lineup. The drinks will be phased out in early November as part of an overall menu simplification according to the company’s CEO. The olive oil-infused espresso beverages had customers divided with some complaining of gastrointestinal issues. Starbucks cafes in China, Italy, and Japan will continue to serve the Oleato drinks. Breezit has shared the No.1 song played at weddings They state that it is Whitney Houston's hit, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” People Magazine states, "The company analyzed 2,000 wedding-themed playlists and nearly 50,000 songs on Spotify to identify the top tracks played at weddings. During its investigation, it found that the 1987 hit song was included in about 24% of wedding-related playlists, appearing 484 times." ConsumerAffairs has shared its list of the most Halloween-obsessed states.  The list is based on the number of haunted houses, pumpkin patches, Spirit Halloween locations, and more.  In the top five were Maine, Utah, Idaho, and West Virginia. In at No. 1 is New Hampshire.  The outlet states, "Considering its size, New Hampshire is packed with corn mazes, haunted hayrides, ghost tours, and costume stores, and you can find Halloween-related events almost every day in October." The holiday shopping season is here, and Americans are opening up their wallets. A Nerdwallet survey found that Americans will spend $925 on average on gifts for family and friends - up from $831 last year. It also found that all that shopping is stressing us out - 55% said they're stressed by holiday spending, and 28% were still paying off credit card balances from last year's shopping spree. On Thursday, Disney followed other streaming services and raised its subscription prices.  Disney warned customers that a hike was coming on Disney+ and Hulu in August.  Subscriptions will generally increase by $1-$2 per month, and Hulu Live TV will increase by $6.  Source: Yahoo Finance

Losing or having your phone stolen has become a very common issue, especially with phone theft up in some areas of the world. Before you potentially lose or have your phone stolen, make sure your phone is as secure as possible, and have a password/biometric scan programmed to unlock the phone. Consider having two-factor authentication for apps related to messaging and finance, and have “Find My Device” or “SmartThings Find” enabled. Also, have your phone’s serial/IMEI number recorded somewhere for additional tracking. If your phone is stolen, notify the police, contact the provider of your phone’s insurance, and reach out to your service provider so they can freeze your phone number. Source: Associated Press

The United States Postal Service (USPS) has announced its recommended mailing and shipping dates for holiday mail and packages to ensure timely delivery before Christmas Day on December 25.  USPS Ground Advantage service and First-Class Mail service mailings must be sent by December 18, while Priority Mail service should be completed by December 19, and Priority Mail Express service by December 21.  For Alaska and Hawaii, USPS Ground Advantage service mailings need to be in by December 16, with other services following shortly after. International mail pieces should be sent earlier in December, with specific recommendations for different regions. USPS advises customers to plan ahead and ship early this holiday season to avoid delays. Source: People

Quick question: what time is it on the Moon?  Right now it's a question without an answer - but NASA is working on it. The agency is working to give the moon its own time zone, dubbed 'Coordinated Lunar Time', or LTC. It's not as simple as it sounds.  The moon's distance from the Earth means time passes slightly faster, by about 56 microseconds per day. McDonald's is bringing back its iconic Halloween Boo Buckets. The buckets first debuted nearly 40 years ago in 1986 and are coming back for a limited time. The four different Boo Buckets will be available on October 15 for a limited time while supplies last or until Halloween. Just order a happy meal to get yours. They also come with stickers. Wendy’s is helping to celebrate the 25th anniversary of 'SpongeBob SquarePants' with a special “Krabby Patty Kollab” cheeseburger and a “Pineapple Under the Sea” Frosty flavoring. For a limited time only, customers can get the Krabby Patty meal, which is the same as a regular cheeseburger but with an additional slice of cheese and a “top-secret” Krabby Kollab sauce.
