Soffat Hossen and his uncle happened to be walking by the Sherman Street home on Sunday afternoon when they saw smoke coming from the second floor. Hossen immediately began knocking on doors to alert residents, but when he didn't get a response, he kicked in the door to check and if anyone was inside. He said he found a man cooking in his kitchen, unaware the building was on fire. That man got out ok.
Albany firefighters arrived on the scene shortly after, and said there were no injuries and everyone got out safely. They're still investigating what caused the fire.
