The College of Saint Rose, a staple in the Capital Region higher education system, may have to close its doors if they don't receive emergency funding. The Times Union confirms the school has asked the New York State as well as the county and city of Albany for financial help to alleviate a multi-million dollar debt.
St. Rose has been facing declining student enrollment and mounting deficits over the last several years. It's not clear as to how long the college can continue to operate without additional funding, but sources in the New York State Assembly say any immediate financial relief from the state is unlikely. Albany Assemblywoman Pat Fahey says that they are looking for an opportunity to save the college, but the situation is 'dire'.
